Why do my coworker and I pay different amounts with the same insurance?

Even with the same insurance company and employer, what you pay can be different from someone else. Common reasons include:

  • Different plans: Employers often offer several plan options, each with its own copay, deductible, and coinsurance. Coworkers with the same insurance company may still be enrolled in different plans.

  • Where you are in your plan year: What you’ve already spent toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum affects what you pay per visit.

  • Your health history: Coverage can depend on the diagnoses on your claim, which vary from person to person.

  • Visit count: Some plans limit how many nutrition visits are covered each year.

  • Other eligibility factors: Some plans cover nutrition counseling differently based on age or other plan-specific requirements.
